Song Title: Motteke! Sailor Fuku
Anime: Lucky Star
Artist: Aya Hirano
Watch the OP (you really should watch this one to get the full effect)
I still honestly don’t know what compelled me to do this song next. I’m still questioning why it’s on here. I was gonna post a nice, engrishy rock song next, but then I started watching the recently released anime, Lucky Star. Since I’m in the anime music blogging business now, I of course decided that I had to watch the full OP in case I wanted to blog about it in the future. My initial reaction to the song was “wtf? are you serious? this is ridiculous…”. I didn’t like the song. And yet, when I watched episode two, the song caught my curiosity enough that I watched the OP all the way through again…soon enough we’re up to episode five and I haven’t wanted to skip the OP at all. This is quite odd for me, since I normally skip any OP/ED once I’ve heard it 2-3 times. Including the good ones.
For starters, the song makes me think about hyperventilating. Seriously. Aya Hirano must be a crazed, hyperventilating, 12 year-old android1. If that’s not enough to make you want to go listen to it, let me mention the fact that the song supposedly revolves around a sailor outfit, has references to cherry pie, cheerleaders, and report cards…oh, and asteroids. The singing is extremely fast paced, broken up by epic, chorus style vocals, random mumbling, and little musical pieces that sound like they came straight out of Cowboy Bebop. Aside from the aforementioned crazy fast vocals, the drum beat and bass line only add the already “rushed” feeling of the song.
I don’t have a clue what this song is really about…given the nature of Lucky Star2, it could just be exactly what it sounds like…a huge mess full of random comments about all kinds of things. I song that I didn’t like a first, but has grown on me far too much for me to be comfortable with. I guess if you haven’t listened to it yet, you might want to take a moment and think about the consequences. Retain proof that you do truly have somewhat of a sound mind? Or risk loosing a small piece of sanity for the discovery of a wholesomely addicting song?
Comments on what this song could be about? Are you the addict, or the cautious type?

2 Lucky Star is completely random, hilarious, and highly recommended by me. Full of interesting conversations about questions everyone is burning to ask.

I’m addicted to it a look time ago… After watchin’ the 1st epi I just couldn’t stop watchin’ the Op, and belive me, that’s strange, ok?
The music is so stupid but at the same time you just like it, I don’t really know what to say about it….
Nice post BTW.
